The Government relaunched itself again today with an announcement that 20,000 council houses would be built in the near future. This building project effectively reverses the private sector led Pathfinder demolition programme.
The nine Pathfinder areas should prepare for a change in policy. No longer will senseless demolition of housing be tolerated. Building is now the number one priority.
The death of Pathfinder moves forward at a pace.

Pathfinder - Ripping Up Communties
The Guardian this week finally got the message. In past years it has taken Government regeneration and practically advertised for Government policy. This week it has taken a critical eye on the destruction of communities.
In a sharply worded article the failure of the Government's Pathfinder housing renewal scheme is laid on the table. Few people now openly cheer Pathfinder. Only the undemocratic quangos, short sighted councils and millionaire developers are left as supporters.
One of the key issues in housing renewal areas is replacing housing with more expensive housing that local people can't afford. The net effect is a sort of ethnic cleansing of hard working families by northern councils by pricing people out of their own neighbourhoods. No wonder the BNP is now emerging as a real threat in the north where ordinary people, ignored by the traditional parties, are voting BNP as a cry for help.
