Pathfinder 'failing communities' says Government Report

Pathfinder was not just a housing project. Members of Saltwell & Bensham Residents Association attended events in which "independent consultants" GVA Grimley said that pathfinder would improve housing, education, opportunity, roads, pavements and the buses would run on time.

Incredible as it might seem but rebuilding communities, a very New Labour concept, was on the agenda. Here in Saltwell & Bensham communities find themselves under assault by Gateshead Council. People have moved out of homes for Gateshead Council only to be told that the nearest accommodation is in Blyth - 15 miles away. Only those in housing association secure tenancy have found help.

Now, according to Inside Housing, it seems that officials now admit that communities have been pulled apart by pathfinder.

The report said: ‘There is a lack of understanding about what community cohesion is and what pathfinders should be aspiring to achieve'

So there you have it. Pathfinder is failing it's most basic aim.
